A Seasonal Printing Floater plays a critical role in supporting production operations across multiple departments, including bindery and inserting. This temporary, seasonal position provides hands-on assistance during periods of increased workload to ensure printed materials move efficiently through finishing, mailing, and shipment while meeting quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Bindery & Finishing Support
- Assist with bindery operations, including stitchers, folders, cutters, and other finishing equipment
- Help prepare printed materials by folding, collating, jogging, bundling, and aligning sheets
- Stage materials for the next production step and assist with job changeovers as needed
Inserting & Mailing Support
- Assist inserting and mailing machine operators by staging materials such as envelopes, inserts, cards, and labels
- Load hoppers, feeders, and trays with materials to maintain machine uptime
- Remove filled trays, tubs, or cartons from machines and replace with empty containers
- Sweep, strap, band, or sleeve completed mail according to job specifications
- Monitor output for basic quality checks, including insert accuracy, counts, and alignment
- Assist with clearing jams and restarting machines under operator direction
Quality Control
- Inspect printed and finished materials for defects such as misprints, missing inserts, incorrect folds, or alignment issues
- Remove defective pieces and notify supervisors or operators of quality concerns
- Ensure finished products meet job specifications and customer standards
Material Handling & Shipping Prep
- Stack, sort, and transport materials between departments using carts or pallets
- Pack, label, and prepare finished products for shipment or postal entry
- Maintain organized work areas and properly label work-in-process materials
Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow all safety guidelines, including PPE requirements and machine safety procedures
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace
- Report unsafe conditions or equipment issues promptly
Equipment & Process Support
- Assist with basic troubleshooting of bindery and inserting equipment
- Communicate production issues, shortages, or delays to supervisors
- Support cross-training efforts and assist in other departments as needed
Position Details
- Position Type: Seasonal / Temporary
- Duration: Based on production needs (peak mailing and print periods)
- Schedule: May include overtime, extended hours, or varied shifts during peak demand
